Award-Winning Documentary Evidences the Need for BHM

The Netflix documentary Extremis vividly illustrates status quo disconnects between doctors advising families to "pull the plug" as an act of compassion for their dying relative, while the families are still hoping in God for a miracle via divine intervention. A subtle tug-of-war can develop, even in the best of circumstances. This erodes trust and the therapeutic encounter crumbles. Families can feel disenfranchised even when a provider feels like they are trying to help. Unconscious bias is real. And issues like this easily get swept underneath the carpet. That is what inspired the Black Hopes Matter movement. In addition to sourcing and sharing stories, we offer solutions. Learn more about our training.
